Leveraging Structural Monitoring Data During Urban Tunnel Excavation

Explanations of the project

The project aims to leverage monitoring data from the Grand Paris Express to improve the understanding and prediction of ground movements transmitted to structures. The ultimate goal is to optimise and adapt acceptable movement thresholds according to ground conditions and the nature of the structures concerned, while improving the assessment of their vulnerability.

More specifically, this objective can be divided into two successive components:

– Conduct a more detailed analysis of buildings that have sustained damage in order to reassess their allowable displacements according to their type and structural characteristics.

– Compare building displacements with ground movements over the widest possible area in order to quantify the effect of structural stiffness on building response to ground-imposed displacements.
