RING Consortium (Research for Integrative Numerical Geology)

Project Explanation

The RING Consortium (formerly Gocad) is a long-term, multi-annual research project that began in 1989. Its goal is to define new ways of modeling the subsurface and managing the associated uncertainties. The research focuses on mathematical and computational methods dedicated to the representation and integration of geological data and concepts. More specifically, it is concerned with geometric modeling of geological structures and their associated properties across different scales, as well as reducing uncertainty through inverse methods.Members of the consortium (companies, geological consultancies, and universities) contribute annual fees that have enabled the consortium to fund about two PhD theses per year between 2015 and 2025.Consortium members receive privileged access to the codes and expertise developed within the project, invitations to the annual consortium conference, and — for industrial sponsors — access to governance via the steering committee.
