Mechanics, geomodelization and risks (memory)
The MeMoRy theme (Mechanics, geomodelization and risks) develops geomechanical and geomodeling approaches to characterize and represent our subsoil and discuss geological risks.
The Memory theme brings theorists, experimenters and modelers together. These researchers work together to develop a finer understanding:
♦ of structures and properties of the sub-surface,
♦ of resources who may be there,
♦ of risks on structures that can be built there,
♦ and the impacts of the sub-surface exploitation on the environment and societies.
The research carried out within the MeMoRy theme are at the intersection between:
♦ geosciences (geology, hydrogeology, geophysics),
♦ Engineering sciences (rock, soil and fluid mechanics, cindynics, civil engineering),
♦ computer science (programming, software engineering, numerical simulation),
♦ and human and social sciences.
This research covers a Wide range of spatial scales. These range from a few nanometers to several hundred kilometers. Above all, the teams are interested in scale changes brought into play in the physical, industrial or societal problems posed by the exploration and exploitation of the subsoil.

Scientific questions of the theme Mechanical, geomodelization and risks (MeMoRy)
♦ What descriptions of fractured heterogeneous porous media and their behavior? What formation and evolution mechanisms?
♦ How to quantify and integrate uncertainties to improve underground understanding and management? How to assess and reduce the associated risks?
♦ Multiple data, multiple physics: how to describe and predict the behavior of geological systems in the face of natural and anthropogenic pressures?
