Reservoirs for primary energy resources and storage
The Energy resources are at the heart of contemporary social debates:
♦ replacement of hydrocarbon resources,
♦ development of an energy mix,
♦ storage of energies in a geological environment.
The objective of the Reservoirs for primary energy resources and storage theme is:
♦ to build geological system models associated with new forms of resources and use of the subsurface,
♦ to innovate in exploration and monitoring tools,
♦ to develop synergies between: geology-geophysics, mineralogy-geochemistry of fluids, thermodynamic reactions approached from an experimental or numerical point of view.
The goal is to optimize the characterization, dynamics and modeling of these reservoirs.

The scientific questions of the theme Reservoirs for primary energy resources and storage
The main question of the theme Grestock is:
♦ What geological concepts are needed for new fluid resources (geothermal, gas, lithium) and storage (energy, acid gas, radioactive waste) in the context of the energy transition?
This question, extremely broad due to the diverse but complementary skills of the different team members, is broken down into sub-questions:
♦ What geological parameters control the geometry of reservoirs, fluid dynamics, and storage sites?
♦ What new methodologies and metrologies, which are less costly and more efficient, can be developed for the characterization of the subsurface and fluids to identify resources, determine storage volumes, and manage extractions and storage?
♦ How can we characterize the nature and reactivity of fluids and rocks to understand their evolution over time and space within production and storage areas?
♦ How can we quantify, identify, and manage the environmental and societal impacts associated with these activities, particularly through monitoring and safety aspects of a storage or extraction site?
