Infrared spectroscopy

Infrared spectroscopy

The laboratory is equipped with a range of FT-IR BRUKER spectrometers:

  • 1 EQUINOX IFS 55 with 2 compartments attached to an IRscope1 infrared microscope with thermostated stage
  • 1 VERTEX 70 with 2 compartments
  • 1 VERTEX 70 attached to a micro-imager (Hyperion 3000)
  • 2 ALPHA compact spectrometers
  • 1 SIGIS2 scanning imaging remote sensing system for atmospheric gases

with a PICARRO G2101-I gas analyser for carbon isotope analysis.

A wide range of accessories are available for solid, liquid and gas analyses:

diffuse reflectance; diffuse reflectance with reaction chamber; attenuated total reflection (horizontal and vertical); grazing angle specular reflection; variable path-length liquid cells; and fixed and variable path-length gas cells.

Services:

Because of the many operating modes, experiments are usually conducted by one of our technicians.

Our main services include:

  •  Mineralogical analyses:
  •  bulk analysis of powders (transmitted and diffuse reflectance)
  •  point analysis of grains or dust (microscopy in transmitted and reflected light mode)
  • heterogeneity (imaging)
  • Characterization and identification of organic and mineral phases
  • Studies of surface states
  • Monitoring of mineral dehydration and dehydroxylation
  • Analysis of pictures and wall-paintings (pigments, bindings etc…)
