The platform in video
The Thin Section Laboratory produces thin and thick sections of lithified and non-lithified materials for microscopic observation:
- Covered or polished thin sections that can be used for optical microscopy under transmitted or reflected light, observation by UV epifluorescence and cathodoluminescence, analysis by electron microscopy or ion microprobe, and analysis using laser ablation techniques (LIBS, ICP- MS);
- Thick sections for the study of fluid inclusions;
- Polished sections for observation in reflected light and infrared and Raman imaging.
The laboratory is equipped with trimming and slab saws, impregnation vessels under vacuum and pressure, a gluing press, a lapping machine, a turning saw and polishing machines.
